Aanchal Khanna QKL NVQ Assessor makes it to the final of the Archant Thames Gateway ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award’.

We are thrilled to announce that Aanchal Khanna has made it into the final of this prestigious award!

Aanchal Khanna was made redundant from her high flying city job and was working as a volunteer at a local ‘Learn direct’ company. Being made redundant made her rethink her career path – she realised that what she really wanted to do was get involved in the training and support of adult learners.

She then made a crucial phone call to QKL to enquire about registering for an NVQ in Advice and Guidance. As QKL’s managing director I asked Aanchal to pop over to our offices in Walthamstow to look at how we could help her to get the qualifications she needed to make this career change.

Aanchal was too ‘over qualified’ to be eligible for any of the government funding so we struck a deal with her – ‘Come and volunteer with us for two days a week over a three month period and we’ll train you for free!’

QKL struck gold with Aanchal. She threw herself into the work and it quickly became apparent that she was a natural. At 23 years old she confidently took on the role of trainer and NVQ Assessor. Before her three months was up we offered her a full time post. She has in her very short time with us supported over 15 learners to qualify in Advice and Guidance and Customer Service.

The learners she has worked with have given us fantastic feedback describing her as ‘the most charming and helpful of people. She was always friendly and polite whilst maintaining her very professional approach’

Aanchal has not held back on developing her own portfolio of qualifications since she joined the QKL team. She is now a fully qualified NVQ assessor, has completed two NVQs in Advice and Guidance and Customer Service and has recently taken her first steps to becoming an associate teacher.- all in the five months she has been with us!

At QKL we have just been awarded our Matrix Standard and Aanchal has taken a pivotal role in our Matrix journey. She has built up from scratch a library of information to help our team give up to date advice and guidance on a wide range of topics. She has helped to write our first ‘learners guide’ – something we’ve been meaning to do for years. She is always the first one to put her hand up to take on a new task to help our business to grow and improve the quality of the service we offer.

Part of our quality control involves regular meetings with assessors to look in depth at their work performance and seek out ways that they can develop. Aanchal is hungry for feedback and able to make changes quickly to add to her excellent standard of work.

Her outstanding contribution to QKL’s success this year means that she is an excellent nominee for this prestigious award. If she wins I know that the people she has supported will celebrate her success with enthusiasm. Well done Aanchal!
